In August 2024, Stanley Roof and Solar replaced the 18-year-old roof on Tim’s home in the Salmon Creek area of Vancouver, WA. There were no obvious leaks, but the roof was near the end of its life and most homes in the neighborhood had already been reroofed. Once the old shingles came off, we found sheathing that was moldy and rotted almost through, so we replaced it and installed a complete Malarkey roofing system.

What was wrong
The roof was 18 years old and nearing the end of its life. Our inspection found no obvious leaks from inside the attic.
The original CertainTeed shingles had been stapled on when the home was built. That practice is no longer allowed; nails are the only acceptable fastener today.
What we did
- Removed the old shingles, which came off easily because they had been stapled.
- Replaced the OSB sheathing that was growing mold and had rotted almost through. It had soaked up water and kept it out of the home, but it was past time for replacement.
- Installed Malarkey 1031 Secure Start Plus underlayment, Malarkey 401 Arctic Seal and SmartStart starter shingles.
- Installed Malarkey Vista shingles in Midnight Black with Malarkey EZ-Ridge hip and ridge caps.
- Installed Lifetime Tool pipe flashings and a Lifetime Tool bath vent.
